"229" Description: In the fall of 1982, it was rare to see a drag boat exceed 215 MPH.. that is until Eddie Hill, at the controls of "The Texan" Blown Fuel Hydro, boiled the surface of Chowchilla California's Berenda Reservoir at an astonishing 229 MPH.. a world record that would stand for over a decade!Artist's notes: Eddie's accomplishment at that time was literally mind boggling, and there were of course a bitter few who tried to cast doubt, saying it was a phony time. When I was working on the acrylic on masonite original, I asked Eddie if he had any doubt about the validity of the record speed; if he in fact remembered anything about that incredible run? He told me, "Kenny, I'll never forget that pass. We had already run over 225 MPH earlier that day. I could tell it was running fast as the torque from the motor tries to turn the boat, and you really have to fight the steering wheel. On the 229 MPH run it was all I could do to hold myself in the boat." The acrylic on masonite original is in the collection of Eddie & Ercie Hill. ORDER FORM |
